this monastery used to house the famous Icon of Archangel Michael that is now in Panormaritis (see earlier blog) - its deserted now - rather a shame.

On the last full day of my stay in Symi I went on a walk across the island to the monastery of Agios Emilianos. It involved getting up at 7am and being at the bus stop by 8. (mot easy after a night on the Metaxa!) After a short ride in a minibus to the top of the town we set off to walk the 8 kilometres to the monastery. Not am easy walk as after the first short bit it was climbing across rocks and following what looked like goat paths!
The views were brilliant - here is the first part of this walk.
All pictures of me in my hat etc by Jim Burns - thanks Jim

How come you didn't get a shot of the bug in #16? I have to admit there's some grand scenery but I'm not sure my knees would cope with this walk.
