A piece of land in "Doel", filled with poems about the disappearance of the village.
Doel is a subdivision of the municipality of Beveren in the Flemish province of Oost-Vlaanderen. It is located near the river the Scheldt, in a polder of the Waasland.
Doel is threatened with complete demolition due to the future enlargement of the harbor of Antwerp. This has seen many people having to sell their homes to the development corporation of that enlargement. Many historical buildings will be destroyed including a beautiful church.

Aimless
(in memory of Frans B. who died with his village)
He was thinking too much of the decay of
his village, the crawling of the mosses on
walls, houses without steps.
Also the chamber of his heart dried out.
The future yawned to him as a deep pit.
He couldn’t strike the fear away
as a thermometer.
Where did his poor pigeons had to spread their wings?
He knew not where the sun rose,
sprinkled golden grains of corn,
Took his cap off neatly
before he hung himself.
Rather would he tie a rope
to the heavens before the ground under his
feet sank away.
The aspen were silent for a moment,
the crops swallowed.
The mediator came with his accompanying social plan
dramatically late.

This happened in my parents town when the state decided to dam the river and make a lake. My grandfather had to sell his farm to the state and my dad was always sad about it.
