Seems like I'm posting a lot of RIP postings lately
(See RIP Wagon Wheel) I lived in San Francisco from1993- 1999ish. During that time, San Francisco was a MOVIE town.I mean on the weekends, you went to the movies! Every neighborhood had one or two theaters. For a time, I lived at Polk and Post, and we had a few different theaters to choose from . One of them was the UA Galaxy at Sutter and Van Ness. Architecturally, it was a very unique theater. I remember seeing the re-release of Star Wars there. The line wrapped around the building into the back alley, where I ran into an old friend who was giving out clean needles to junkies. Only in San Francisco! I also remember seeing a screening of "Beyond The Mat" and seeing myself (for a very brief second) on the big screen. The theater closed in 2005 (it couldn't compete with the multi-plex they opened around the corner), and on my last trip to SF, it was facing the wrecking ball. Here's a few photos pre-wreckingball,and during demolition. See some of my other theater photos
