Kimmel Center & Verizon Hall

2008.02.15
My contraband photo of the Philly Pops sign in Verizon Hall. No photos are allowed in a performance, so I took these surreptiously. Note the pipes to the huge pipe organ, and the pipe organist's keyboard below the Pops sign.

The Kimmel Center from outside at street level.

Looking down on the lobby and out to the street from the Tier 1 balcony. The entrance in the gray stone wall is to the Perelman theatre.

Overlooking the lobby. The Perelman theatre is to the left, the entrances to Verizon Hall are to the right.

The domed ceiling of the Center is glass, you can see the moon thru the glass in the upper middle.

Another shot of the center of the lobby, overlooking the bar. You can see the lights of the neighboring buildings thru the glass ceiling.

Looking up at one of the Tier 2 entrances from Tier 1 (the tiers are basically balconies).

Another view of the balconies over the lobby that allow entry into the upper levels of Verizon Hall. There are three levels of balconies above the main (street) level.

Part of the Tier 1 lobby area.

The Verizon Hall sign above the main entrance into the Hall. This shows the beauty of the wood used, all of Verizon Hall, is this warm, honey colored wood.

Another shot prior to the Pops performance, from my Tier 1 seat looking down on the stage.

Another view of the roof.

Inside Verizon Hall.

The right side of Verizon Hall.

Some of the art on display.

My favorite venue in Philadelphia is the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, home to the Philly Pops and the Philadelphia Orchestra. I was there for a Philly Pops concert in Verizon Hall. The building is huge, and the architecture is amazing, lots of wood, stone and glass. But what's really incredible is the quality of the sound inside Verizon Hall, it's a dream come true for music lovers!
