A newspaper editor is like a hand moulded in glass. It has to balance many truths, be of many colours, transparent, yet truthful.

The Newspaper Editor

In a recent visit to Bath Aqua Glass, one of the few surviving glass works in the United Kingdom, I came across their Wall of Fame. It had many hands on it cast in glass. One of these attracted my attention. It was the hand of Sam Holiday, former editor of the local daily Bath newspaper The Bath Chronicle.

This newspaper produced its last daily issue today. Next week it will begin publishing a weekly paper. This is apparently the first time that a daily newspaper has transformed into a weekly format in the UK.

It seemed appropriate therefore to mark this occasion with a posting about press freedom and truth. I wish the Editor and his staff good luck in their new adventure and their comittment to continue championing the expression in their paper of a wide range of opinion from a "very opinionated city".

Freedom Song from the movie Water

Today I decided that as winter is approaching and flowers are withering that I would change my avatar from a flower to an umbrelloid entity
- something to brighten the dull skies.

Carley I love the colors and the play of light on the glass....but most of all, I love your quotes! And I like your new avatar!
