One of my favourite places to visit is the Black Mountains in Wales. At the Western end there are beautiful views to be had with a serene stillness broken only by the bleat of sheep and the cries of red-shouldered kites. The wind can roar over these slopes and it is fine to stand buffeted by its urgency as one gazes across at Carreg Cennen Castle and wonder what mysteries and secrets it holds. The Romans trudged here and the Welsh Princes reigned supreme for so long. It is worth a visit and one can do no better than visit the tea-room at its foot and sample the delicious homemade cakes and wonder at the rare breeds of sheep and cattle. It is a marvellous day out, no matter the weather.
