This entry is for a traveller to Lamayuru.
Shangrila Guesthouse is a typical alternative to the Monastery Hotel. The hotel will be more attractive and more comfortable. Shangrila has a beautiful view across the valley from some rooms; the food is not the best and the bathroom is dark and scary and I lost my travel towel here. However, the people are honest and nice and doing the best they can with what they've got to work with, so if you find the Monastery Hotel booked up, you might consider staying here. The rooftop breakfast room and beer garden is very pleasant. My companion liked it more than me.

Thanks for that post ! Sometimes we need to remember that our big or small cities are not the only places on earth... so we may stop crying for little things....
Again, you're amazing, thinking on the first physical layer you see and prejuging with some sort of cultural superiority. I think is more honest to say: this is their clothesline, we could stop crying for little things in our big or small cities if we could learn from these people half of it!!

So you really think these people would reject a washing machine if they could have one? Your view is simplistic. The evidence is all over China and India that people will buy consumer goods when they can afford it.
