The Rat Temple - Sri Karni Mata Temple

2007.11.08
Not this sort of rat.

Temple workers - rat carers

Nice house for the rats.

Communal dining

It really is a temple.

Temple Musicians

Orange

Adorable, aren't they?

My favourite ratty.

See the pigeon? Everytime I look at this picture I think of Rembrandt.

No its not an orgy. These people are sleeping!

They seem to like corners.

Having a poo?

We know where this one's been. But what has been up to?

Its getting rather full in this plate.

Communal cup

A picnic.

Pilgrims.

The Sri Karni Mata Temple is 600 years old and found in Deshnok, Rajasthan. A town 30 km from Bikaner. There is an interesting story about how it to be. I shall track it down for you.

janec love the communal dining shots, and the snoozer, difficult to choose a favourite, but there's one or some there somewhere.

Adrian You should have stayed till after sun set - the atmosphere becomes more serene when the temple is illuminated. But thanks for taking me back.

ShangriLa Shangrila here: That's a good tip Adrian. I'll do it when I go back in a few years. But, there is the slight problem of riding back to Bikaner in the dark, or did you find somewhere to stay in town?

rolpa Strange, to say the least. Still, Ganesha rides a rat.
