Fort City, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan

2007.11.10

This woman was selling junk jewellery at the entrance to the fort. Jaisalmer is a very touristy city.

The lovely yellow stones of this wall are peculiar to buildings of Jaisalmer.

Blocks for ink block printing.

A fantastic Jain temple.

A house. I don't know if its actually a haveli.

Another house.

The front door of a house inside the fort.

Sometimes you see paintings like this on the outside walls of the houses.

You gotta love the casual juxtaposition of stunning craft, kitsch painting and the bloody washing.

Now for some fort views.

That gate down there is where the elephants would go in. It is the only entrance I think.

View from my guesthouse.

From somewhere else in the Fort.

Marigolds. You can never have too many marigolds.

This is the wonderful tank known as Gadi Sagar. This was once the water supply of the city, according to my guidebook. This building is actually in the middle, not on the edge. Its some sort of old temple.

I am still not quite sure what these buildings represent. I don't think its a temple as such but close. A traveller friend and I hired a paddle boat and spent a happy half hour on the water.
