Two Indian eccentricities

One is a hair and plastics shop found at a famous market in Mysore. This macabre business is featured in an excellent book called A Fine Balance, by Rohinton Mistry. Please find the opportunity to read this book. Its excellent.

The other was taken in a dark restaurant - hence the terrible camera shake. I don't know why I couldn't use the flash. Its a dreadful picture but an amusing thought nevertheless. It comes from the custom of eating with your hands. The plates are metal and have a high lip. People evidently are inclined to pour their drinking water over their hands after the meal: unnecessarily so since all Indian restaurants have a wash basin within easy access.

Although I have nothing against it, Mysore was a low point of my trip. I had lost a lot of weight quickly in Coorg from a bout of diarrhoea during my trek, and I had a stack of travel tickets to book - a chore which didn't go at all smoothly. As a consequence, I didn't feel like doing any sightseeing. It was all I could do to get away. So no piccies. In fact, i hardly take any pictures from now on for quite a while. Its not that there was nothing photogenic. I was just tired.
