I didn't know curls like this were included in sculptures of this period. But then, I don't even know what period this is, really. Still -- fascinating!

The original Il Fauno. The one currently residing in Pompeii is a replica. Sadly, I think the replica is the happier of the two. Set Il Fauno free!

Postcard I picked up for my friend, Cat, before entering the museo. Very happy that I was able to find the original for her. :)

I don't know much about art history, but I do love the lines of this piece. Very elegant.

This was in the section of the museo reserved for visitors over 14, the Gabinetto Segreto, unless accompanied by a parent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Museum,_Naples). Seen from another angle, this is really quite, ahem, detailed. Regardless of the content, however, I love the style.

More from the Gabinetto Segreto. I can't help but think of this one as, "Stop! In the name of love..."

Somehow all the runway models in the world will never compare to the grace and style of this woman.

I don't remember who this depicts, but if I recall correctly, he was situated at the left of a large set of stairs.

If only I knew the manual settings on my little camera better, I'd have set the depth of field shorter to keep her in focus and blur the background. Still, the palm and other flora are a nice accent.

An afternoon visit to the Museo Archeologico in Napoli. Many parts of the museum were closed or undergoing remodeling, so no Egyptian items and only limited items from Pompeii were accessible. Fortunately, Il Fauno was still available for visitation.
