È questo l'autobus per Palermo?
2007.07.07
Yes, yes it is. (Ok, not really. I took this on the bus back, but it makes for a great opening shot!)

Part of the wall of a building adjoining the hostel. I took the photo because I loved the fact that besides regular brick, there are pieces of lava stuck in there. Neat!

One of many public drinking fountains around Catania. Actually, these things abound in Italy. They run constantly. Very cool.

One of the many stray dogs in Catania. Although I didn't get any shots of them in Pompeii, there were tons of 'em there, too. The majority of them look like lightweight German Shepherds and Lab mixes. This guy was very friendly and respectful.

I could have saved myself so much trouble if only I'd known about this place earlier! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e02g_EBKpMA

Through the looking glass... That's actually a very common Saviour pose. I'm generally the one who obsessively plans and figures out the details. Salvu was on a mission this whole trip, however, so I just stood back with Joseph and let him do his thing. I'm afraid I got quite spoiled.

The sassy traveler again. I'd lost one of my earrings between the rifugio and the hostel, so I picked these up for 1 euro at the market in Catania. Sadly, I left them on the train later that night. D'oh! ...Oh, look! Salvu is reflected on one lens and Joseph in the other. Cool!

Artsy shot of... some art! Someone mentioned lawn bowling, but one of the Palermo residents said it's just decorative. *shrug*

Couchsurfing meeting. :D This is actually really a cheesy animated gif, my way of not working hard to assemble a panoramic shot. It is oddly green tinted. Very Matrixy! Go here to see the animation: http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/8861/palermoanimateoi4.gif

Margarite. She's Polish and lives in London. And she's a Capricorn, woot! Indeed, our birthdays are only a few days apart.

David, who is French and lives in (wait for it) ...France! He works at the train station in Paris, I believe. So if you ever get confused there, just flash this picture and ask for David.

(Another case of deleting before finalizing the post, but having it show up anyway. Huh. Anyway, this is a shot from the bus back to Catania. Some interesting buildings atop a hill.)

Helloooo again, Mt. Etna! Sigh. I really, really didn't want to leave Italy. I honestly cried almost all the way back to Catania. I will come back soon!

Yay! Sleeper car! Awesome! ...though I have to wonder what people meant when they told me upgrading to a sleeper car was not that much more expensive than regular 2nd class fare. It was quite pricey. I wonder if it had to do with the fact that he put me in a women-only cabin. Must learn Italian!

We came back from Etna a day earlier than planned. A 3 day Couchsurfing.com meeting was planned in Palermo. I had to leave that night, but I really wanted to meet other couchsurfers. So we took the 2 hour bus ride from Catania to Palermo, attended the picnic for 3-4 hours, and I headed back to Catania to catch the train to Naples. Joseph and Saviour stayed and attended the whole 3 day extravaganza. I cried on the way home. I really, really didn't want to leave!
