The clock appears to have stopped at 9:45. Maybe there is a tradition I don't know about or I am reading it incorrectly, but left me scratching my head. That's no mean feat, I'll have you know -- my Silly Hat is big!

I really love this picture, even though the unlit sparkler in his hand looks like a syringe. I LOVE sparkler pictures!

More fireworks over the Piazzetta. These were all set off by people who brought their own!

Did I mention that I love the way sparklers look in pictures? Even when the people are all kinds of blurry, the sparklers look so great!

New Year's Eve / New Year's morning in Venice. The big concert, which was really more like Uknown People Getting Paid To Do Karaoke, was in Piazza San Marco. There were surprisingly few fireworks at the big moment and I'm not sure any of them were provided by the event folks. Things got much more interesting over in the Piazzetta, with plenty of do-it-yourself-ers lighting and blowing things up.
I watched for a while, but decided to leave when people began tossing their empty bottles into the blast areas. Seemed like a grand recipe for shrapnel! ;)
