Weekly Vesuvius.

Two friends. :)

Off the beaten path, climbing for a photo op.

Neato shadows!

This was hard to get. I was on my knees, aiming up the hill, trying to zoom in past the wall. Wanted to get the flowers against the sky, not just the volcano. I think some of the other visitors were perplexed by my fascination with this "weed," lol.

This one looked better in black and white than color...

...and this one, while very similar, looked better in color than black and white.

Looked like weeds in b/w, lol. Must have color to show off the pretty pink!

God rays over Napoli. Oddly, a little spot on the lens that has been plaguing me decided to show up here. I even used the special lens cleaner brush pen thingy before setting out today. Drat! May need to disassemble a few things.

After an exciting weekend on Stromboli, it was good to get back to the old stomping grounds. I was still feeling pretty beaten down by last week's climb on the island, however, and wasn't sure I'd find anything new to snap pictures of, lacking inspiration and a new environment. I decided to keep an eye out for people picture opportunities and to try and think primarily in black and white. I still got suckered into some color photos, but did end up getting a few nice people / black and white shots.

One thing that may be obvious to more experienced photographers, but was surprising to me, is that some photos looked better in color than in b/w. That is to say, I liked one photo in b/w, then looked at the color version and preferred a similar one just after it in color (or vice versa). The color, or lack thereof, enhanced different angles and such, so one photo that was just "meh" in color is awesome in b/w (and vice versa, of course!).

I thought about today being International Angel Day and also my cousin Crystal's wedding day back in the U.S. May the angels look after you and your husband, Crystal, and bring you lots of volcano climbing opportunities! ;)
