'The Stanhope' in for essential winter maintenance.

The locomotives are in immacualte condition. You can almost feel the love with which these engines have been restored.

The guys were able to tell me where every variation of nut, bolt and screw was in this pile.

The West Lancashire Light Railway is a 2 foot gauge railway of around 430 yards length. Like several other UK projects it is not a preserved railway but an attempt to preserve the atmosphere and locomotives of the narrow gauge era and as such is operated by the West Lancashire Light Railway Association.

The line is only operational between April and October but today a member of the group that maintains it showed me around the engine shed.

Watch out for Part 2 sometime after April when I hope to get shots of the locomotives in action.
