Why Is It Called Fast Food ?

I was late home from work today and decided to call in the drive thru for my dinner. After spending 10 minutes in the queue I began to wonder why it was called 'fast food' when it's anything but fast.

I think when they started to be like resturants and accepting plastic and delivering food to your table, and thinking its faster if you pull thru and park so they can process more orders.......................The term fast went away Cool shot and good question
