Ticket To Ride

2010.02.18
pixel
Why is the weather always like this when I decide to take a day's leave from work ?!
pixel
Bleak countryside of Yorkshire.
pixel
The snowy weather is back but we didn't let that stop us going out for a drive on our day off from work.
pixel
Oxenhope Worth Valley Railway was our destination. Britain's last remaining complete heritage branch line runs from Keighley to Oxenhope.
pixel
Oxenhope is a beautiful example of an Edwardian station, complete with coal fire and authentic advertising signs from the era.
pixel
Two return fares ..... not at authentic Edwardian prices !
pixel
The platform at Oxenhope, with period lights and milk churns.
pixel
One of the old railway carriages has been turned into a small cafe.
pixel
The 'tea room' cafe.
pixel
How many of my fellow Brits remember when train carriages were like this ?
pixel
Even standard class had style in those days.
pixel
It's actually makes a quaint little cafe and sitting there took me right back to my childhood days when I used to travel by train with my parents.
pixel
And what else could I have for lunch but a British Rail pie and a mug of tea ?!

revenant Re 13: and you survived to tell the tale? I don't think I'd like the UK railway experience today. Thirty years ago, I used to take the train every day (when it worked) to Dulwich in South London. I don't recall the carriages being so attractive and definitely not that clean.
