Formal elements : line

2009.11.23
Tate Modern, London (June 2009) : I used to think this was a good use of strong vertical / diagonal lines moving the eye in a Z like fashion from the bottom right to the bottom left and finally to the top right corner where it met another edge of the building. Now I wonder if it’s all a bit messy and disorienteering.

Old Winchester Hill, Hampshire (Sept 2008) : Unconsciously, I managed to get 5 natural lines converging sharply into the distance. While I think I’ve observed the rule of thirds fairly well here, I should have tried to get the horizon a bit more level.

Stockport railway station, Stockport (Dec 2007) : I don’t think I use implied lines anywhere as much as I should in my photos. The white painted sections on the steel pillars however do create a subtle slightly curved line and together with the edge of the platform and the reflected glare on the ground, draw my eye towards the far end.

I need to pick either #4 or #5 for my assignment... I think #4 is technically a better example but I like #5 more as a picture.
