I don't remember ever visiting a salt lake let alone walk on one that is predicted to shrink and eventually dry up completely within the next twenty years. The grit of the salt beneath my feet left a strange taste in my mouth as the cold blue sky seemed to stretch forever into the horizon and sink into the hollow white sand.

I should be thankful I had no open wounds that day.

Brilliant place! I love the first one - it is quite surreal. And yes, the last one looks like the end of the world... but I hope you felt the way I do about places like this - they can have a profound effect on our thinking if we just stay there for a bit.
