Formal elements : shape

2009.11.24

Farmer in Siem Reap, Cambodia (Dec 2008) : Helen actually pointed out the recurring circles of her scarf, the sickle and the trees in the background to me. I had always liked the photo, I just didn’t know why… until then!

Mont St Michel, France (May 2009) : Cathedrals are great to shoot in, when it’s allowed that is. There are strong lines here of course, making up the arches of the ceiling but I think the shapes of the arches and the windows just about dominate.

A sisterly hug, Newquay (July 2009) : They hadn’t met up for a while and I was pleasantly surprised to find the outline of a heart so aptly reflecting the emotion in the photo.

I'd thought I was really struggling to get a suitable shot until this. I still have no idea what the ring and spokes are for.

I like the overlapping effect of the recurring curved margins of the tombstone, tree and clouds. Whether David will agree that this constitutes a "shape" is another matter!

I'll need to choose one of the last two. Again, I like #5 as a picture but #4 demonstrates the element better I think.

hannamagnusson These are all lovely! Why do you have to choose betweet the last two? The hug-heart is a perfect illustration, the first has a great feeling in it too. But if you have to choose I'd go for the last because it is much more beautiful and interesting!

????? I like the street lamp and I think the ring is to avoid someone to climb on it ;-)
In 3 I like the V-bent elbow forms a sort of heart with the two girls' heads :-)
