My Grandma Ann's teapot

My Grandma Ann's Mother. My Great Grandmother. I called her Baba. That's Grandma in Croatian. How I adored her.

This is a vase of my Grandma Eva's.

My Dad's cuff links.

This was my Baba's diamond and sapphire ring. My great grandpa left Yugoslavia on a steam boat and ended up in South Africa. He purchased this diamond while there. He was then thown into a concentration camp with the diamond in his pocket. He never lost it. He escaped the camp and made his way to San Francisco. He became an famous waiter of sorts and ended up owning his own restaurant. He called for my Baba from Yugoslavia and married her. Later in their marriage he had this ring made for her with the diamond he escaped from South Africa with.

Family history is such a wonderful thing to share. You have some amazing photos and artifacts that hold such rich stories of your roots.

My family has been working hard to get our Immigrant roots story in writing, photos and stories on DVD. My family are Portuguese immigrants from the Azores Islands. We have a similar "sent for Bride" story sans that gorgeous diamond!!

I have things like you do that remind me of my relatives and neighbors that are no longer around. Looking at those items gives me a warm feeling. Love the story about the ring. So amazing the life your great grandpa had with that ring and what he endured to get to this country.
