2008.05.04
The Fori Imperiali on the way to the Colosseum.

Inside of the Colesseum.

The Colesseum was begun by Emperor Vespasian in AD 72 and inaugurated by his son, Titus, in AD 80 with a gala that saw 5000 animals slaughtered in 1 day.

Stairs that lead to the upper seating. It is estimated that the stadium held 55,000 seats.

The Colosseum's long decline began in the middle ages with the pillaging of stone to build churches and palaces including St. Peters'.

The Forum, which was the civic and political heart of The Roman Empire.

Near the Palatine.

Circus Maximus - now a public park.

Our last dinner in Italy.

Our second day in Rome focused on ancient Rome and it's ruins. We saw the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Palatine and the Circus Maximus.
