We left the villa today and headed for Rome! We went straight to the hotel first to check in and drop off our luggage. Then we took Corey, Tara and Jenna and walked over to the Vatican City to try to see the Sistine Chapel but we got there a little late and the line was, well, a "little" long. So we walked back to Rome and met up with the rest of the family so we could go to the Pantheon.
Later Rob and I split off to explore the city. One of the first things we found was a small city block that contained ruins. Upon reading the signs we learned it was the spot that Julius Caesar had been assasinated. We also noticed there were a lot of cats, and upon further reading, learned the space was a cat sanctuary - for 250 cats. Bizzare! We walked over a good part of the city finding piazzas, monuments and markets before returning to the hotel to meet up with the group for dinner.
On the way to dinner we stopped by the Fountain of Trevi and took some photos. Dinner was excellent, complete with a private room (!), and then we walked to the Spanish Steps.
