Went from Lexington, Kentucky up to Midway, Kentucky for dinner at
Heirloom.
Midway is a tiny town of 1,600 people and as a jaded New Englander, I couldn't believe that such a fine place existed in such a small town.
I was very, very pleasantly surprised to be greeted to a funky atmosphere, including cut paper tapestries hanging on the walls above the high-back booths.
I tried the sauteed chicken livers which although beautifully prepared in a cream fraiche, couldn't hide the fact that, after more than 30 years since my last tasting, I still don't like liver. Fortunately, they were served over lemon ricotta raviolis which were delicious.
For my entree, I ordered the Rabbit Pappardelle. I won't mince words. It was one of the best meals I've ever had. Beyond tender rabbit served over fresh pappardelle noodles with a tomato herb broth. I would walk through fire to have it again.
Heirloom. Midway, Kentucky. Spectacular.
