To Viñales via Las Terrazas

2009.01.08
pixel
We left Havana to go to the West of Cuba, to the province of Pinar del Rio. First stop on the way was Las Terrazas, an eco-community. The hills are full with palm trees and there were cute little cottages along this artificial lake.

We reached Viñales later that afternoon. Here it seems, time stood still for decades. Hardly any motorized transport. People still use horses and carriages, ox cars and bikes. Only a few minutes from the little village, we already found this tobacco plantation. In this area of Cuba most tobacco is grown.

Like said above: farmers still work on their land with ox ploughs.

The village of Viñales is surrounded limestone hills called 'mogotes'.

We saw these vultures allover Cuba. This one posed for us.

GinCanada I don't think the vulture posed for you - looks more like he was sizing you up to see if he could eat you!

Tulpje LOL@ Gin Canada. Every time we saw a vulture like that we were shouting "we're not dead yet!"
