Exploring Valle de Viñales

Maybe my favorite view of the whole trip: the Viñales Valley. We sat here for hours enjoying the mogotes, tobacco fields whilst hummingbirds (zunzuns) flew by.

As real Dutchies we thought it would be 'so cool' to arrange some bikes and cycle through the valley. The temperature was above 30 degrees C, the humidity approximately 90% and the bikes weren't exactly Dutch... we had two flat tires and handed in te bikes only a few hours after we got them ;-)

El Palenque de los Cimarrones. A gaping cave that leads you through the mountain. This was the way slaves tried to escape the plantations.

And this is the other side of the mountain. Fields surrounded by hills. Absolutely great!

Cookie. Cuba has three areas with mountains. Viñales has the mogotes, then near Trinidad Sierra del Escambray and near Santiago Sierra Maestra (where Fidel hid for about 2 years before his victory). Oweena, it was indeed my first trip to Cuba. The boy and I talked about going to Cuba on our first date 1,5 years ago... now we finally went and we have had a great time.

I've never given Cuba a thought as a destination, but your photos make it look quite inviting.

We have both always wanted to go. It will be much simpler once D has his British citzenship.
