For my dear uncle

2012.03.19

A week ago my uncle passed away, very unexpectedly. I am still very shocked and a part of me just cannot believe this. He just turned 65, not old at all. He was my favorite growing up and I can't believe he's not a part of our family anymore.

The funeral was today. Hopefully you guys don't mind that I didn't take pics at the event, even though it was a beautiful ceremony. It was very emotional and I felt very shaky through the whole thing.

So what I did want to show you is something we always get in the South of Holland when there's a funeral. I think it's a catholic custom: a prayer card. Whenever someone in the South/a catholic passes away you get this little card that describes someones life. Since the mans family (who'se from the north and protestant) doesn't know this tradtion, I think it's typically for us.

Anyway: this is the prayer card of my uncle Adrie. The eldest brother of my father.

And this is what's inside the card. To honour someone's life. I have cards like this from all my grandparents and from many of my mums brothers and sisters that have passed away over the last few years. They make a nice keepsake.
