Day 121: What Does The Knee Look Like Today?

2008.04.30

I haven't shown you the actual knee lately, and since so much of this blog was dedicated to coverage of my surgery and immediate post-op period, I figured I would put up a photo of the knee's current state.

As you can see, almost all of the scabs have now fallen off. The big incision is still bumpy, but not quite as much as it was earlier. I do have some interesting art on the knee with the scars.

I had an appointment with my surgeon yesterday, and he's happy with where I'm at in the rehab process. He noticed the swelling that remains, but also said it was much better than before the surgery (that's not too difficult). He put me on another month of anti-inflammatories, to try and make sure we have everything knocked down in terms of internal inflammation. I was figuring he'd give me a lecture about being on crutches still, but he said not to push too hard and undo all of the work he did in there. I'm tired of people telling me to be patient, but I understand why. I'm just getting antsy to get back to the gym and back on the golf course. According to my doctor, nothing golf-related until either my PT says it's OK or I see him, whichever comes first. My next appointment with him is June 10, so my June 1 goal of being back on the course is in jeopardy.

Everything still depends on the quad being able to keep my leg straight when I lift it. We're getting close, though. I will be out of the office on a business retreat next week, so no PT for me. I'm going to have to really work on it while I'm away so as not to go backwards in my progress.
