Toledo

2008.10.05
After the arrival...
First action: take a piss
Second action: "Ok.. where are we, where do we have to go?"

Part of the outer city wall

Puerta Vieja de Bisagra
The northern main entrance to the old part of Toledo

Passing through the gate we just run into the church Santiago del Arrabal built in the "Mudejár"-style.

Also mind the ancient sculptures to the right explaining the twisting ways of life (or anything similar :P)

Puerta del Sol (gate of the sun), part of the inner city wall (mudejár-style again)

See how picturesque we captured the meaning with the sun sparkling at the top right?!

The big sewer of Toledo ;D

I really don't want to know to which godforsaken place this channel leads....

This alley can be considered as one of the bigger ones...

And again a small alley... but now with a nice view of the cathedral of Toledo

And here it is... in all its might an beauty.
The Cathedral of Toledo (I don't add any explanaitions here for wiki does a better job ;) )

...and again...
but this time with a bunch of tourist... damn, they really were everywhere... fucking tourists

Us three (Tobias, Christian, me) standing on a sanguineous platform in front of the Arco de Sangre (Gate of blood)

I just like the mix of the light behind the gate and me standing in the dark...

Statue of Miguel de Cervantes
He's really omnipresent in spain

Entrance to the Museo de Santa Cruz, which was a hospital/orphenage in earlier times.
The museum exhibits a nice collection of paintings from Tristán, Goya and El Greco.

Luckily, the entrance was free.

In the background you can see two towers of the Alcázar (unluckily, it was closed)

Tourists ^^

And yes... my guide is the red one, the smallest of the three

I presume you allready guessed right:
This is spains most beautiful "plateresque" staircase

Tower in front of the Puente de Alcántara, a pedestrian bridge crossing the river Tajo.
A really had to force the other two to go there (it was a hell of a trip down thousands of stairs and we knew that we had to go up again), but in the end it was worth it

View from the Bridge to the Alcázar and the city

Academia de Infanteria on the other side of the river

And thats the view from town to the north-east

Flat and dry... just like I never liked it ;P

the Alcázar from close

Back of the cathedral seen from another small alley

portal of San Ildefonso

(Toledo really is stuffed with churches)

and this is San Román just 100 meters next to San Ildefonso.

There we made a nice break with some cans of beer ^^

Ah... yeah.... Toledo is stuffed with these sort of shops too!!

No, your eyes are not playing ticks on you... This place really was some sort of tilted

View from the old town to the new part of the town in the north

Spanish way of parking:
1.: Your car is no propper car without a dent or a scretch
2.: Park as near to the wall as possible (best would be: the whole side of the car touches the wall)
3.: in order to get out, just open the side window
4.: mark your car with a tie to find it again easier

Off we were to Toledo, the ancient capital of Spain.

The journey started with me being late (still in time though), so we (Tobias, Christian and I) had to hurry to our bus-terminal no61... We only found 1 - 60. After feeling really sucked, we managed to ask a driver which showed us the "non-existing" terminal.

About one hour later we arrived at Toledo. Not much to tell here, besides it is a really beautiful town with lots of small alleys and great views. Just take a look at the pictures and read the comments ;)
