Kodanad

2007.02.16

yeah, actually this is from my earlier travel, but I have been wanting to post them for quite some time, yet for one or other reason I kept postponing...

Mercy upon me, now finally I have them all posted, and alas, you have to endure the ordeal of viewing them, well if you could, then you are assured of Heaven! :)

All these snaps were taken in Kodanad, which is a tea Estate situated some 40 kms from Ooty - a hill station in South India.

photopoet Sumptuous greens. Your eye for the best view is wonderful. The textures and lines in the first photo are mesmerizing.

Venkat Ron, those are beehives.

Kodanad is situated amidst a rare ecosystem called Tropical Dry Ever Green Forest, which is locally called as Shola forests. This eco system is on the verge of extinction, slowly at least. Conservation has been going on, at a much slower level than the extinction!

These Shola forests have a rare flower called Kurinchi, which blossoms once in 12 years. These beehives collect those spl nectar from Kurinchi flowers (... the resulting honey is not only a rarity, and also valued very high medicinally)
