....
it's been lot of temples, so rather today let's embark on a silk tour at
Darasuram...
our second day started from Darasuram Temple... in the temple we were approached by a gentle man, who later turned out to be the weaver him self, whether we would be intereted in seeing how silk saree is woven, well, we accepted bit hesitatingly...
in the next hour or so, we not only spent learning silk weaving, but also how a traditional weaver struggles to make ends meet in the present hyper marketing world...
raw silk is sourced from Karnataka.... then dyed and threaded as wanted...
and its all done at home... two brothers - both married and with children, live together as one family... for each silk saree - an average of 5 mts length, it takes about 8 - 10 days of weaving to complete... then this would only be possible, after all the family are throughly in to it...
well, naturally after the weaving tour, we wanted to see some of their products and then & there a shop is opened up on a mat... and it took an hour or even more time to fold up that instant shop...
before leaving Julie managed to chose one saree and she ordered a wall hang too... ( which is really a feat, if you would only know that Indian women take lot of time to choose saree...esp. with silks they would spend days.. )
