Daruma dolls

Daruma is named after an ancient Chinese Zen Master, Bodidharma. He lost the use of his arms and legs after sitting nine years meditating in a cave. Daruma doll is a symbol of self-discipline and happiness in Japan.

Self-discipline ? I definitely need one of those (or even dozens, I could use some self-discipline !). I really like the red doll, the one with the man's face ! He looks so angry, it cracks me up !

This is an interesting story and lovely custom. But I think these dolls don't look very happy for a symbol of happiness :)) Shot 3 is funny and I like the rabbits, too. Happy rabbit year, Yokai! Is the rabbit year a good year?

That's fascinating. I didn't know about that dolls. At home I have Japanese pottery dolls (a friend's gift) and tea cups :-) L♥ve them.
