Hellooo!!

This morning all of us Bennies and Johnnies got up at the crack of dawn… literally. We left the P&O at 4:45 a.m. to walk to Memorial Hill to watch the service to commemorate Anzac Day. Don’t know what Anzac Day is? No need to worry, I Wikipedia-ed it for ya!

Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, originally commemorated by both countries on 25 April every year to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli in the Ottoman Empire during World War I. It now more broadly commemorates all those who served and died in military operations for their countries

Even though it was a requirement for our Study Abroad Seminar and took place at an ungodly hour of the day I actually really enjoyed it. The service, though I didn’t particularly understand it was very well done and absolutely beautiful as the sun began to rise. I happened to be standing next to two adorable old men who I assume were veterans based upon the number of metals they had displayed on their shirt. Towards the end of the presentation of the wreaths I caught a glimpse of both men as tears were streaming down their faces, I have no idea what their involvement or experiences were but at that moment I felt so fortunate to be at that service.
