Someday we'll look back and laugh...kind of like the riding lawn mower on fire 3 years ago (y'all remember that right??)
My dad, who lives downstairs, is moving to Maryland to be with my mom who has been caring for my grandmother since my uncle's death.
My dad is a mechanic and has been for 35odd years. So he has his own tools and toolbox. That weighs about thousand pounds.
Usually when changing jobs he hires a tow truck to transport it. But, since the distance, he thought maybe he'd rent a truck and do it himself.
So this morning at 8am I take him to the truck rental place. He gets back and needs help loading the toolbox because he weighs about 110 pounds soaking wet.
He backs it into the driveway (those of you who have been here, this is where you start picturing it).
The truck has a ramp. However, it was steep and even though my husband is strong and was pushing with my dad pulling, it wasn't going up. Not to mention the ramp has a weight limit of 1000 pounds.
So my husband says...pull it to the right side of the driveway next to the tree house, in the grass so it will lower the truck and the ramp won't be as steep.
You see where this is going right????
I can say without a doubt, that leaves on top of mud/muck from the recent outpouring of rain...this was NOT a good idea.
He pulls the truck forward and it SLIDES down the hill. And...of course it gets stuck. So he was going to try and get it out immediately. I said forget that, it's low enough now, go ahead and get the toolbox on. It took Matt pushing, me and my dad pulling it to get it up in there. But we got it. That was the easy part.
That was 3 hours ago. It's still stuck.
But!!! We've made progress! Matt had to go to work. So here I am, the dutiful daughter. (And the smartest one of the bunch it appears. Dad didn't HAVE to listen to Matt). Dad used his lift to try and get the truck up enough to slide wood under the tires. Except one side of the truck leaned more than the other. So it's been shimmying this way and that way. Tossing an entire bag of cat litter under it. Throwing gravel under the wheels, etc.
In three hours we've gotten it moved about 8 feet. Yes, a mere 8 feet. But, we ARE getting there. THe lower side is at least on the wood now. The other side is still spinning unfortunately because of the caked on muck/mud.
So dad got more cat litter and I'm taking a break and nursing the baby right now feeding the kids, etc. Then we'll go back out there and try some more. THe area that it is in is VERY ackward. Trees are in front and behind and next to the treehouse.
And yes, my husband is not the brightest bulb this morning for suggesting this utterly crazy idea.

So...kitty litter just wasn't cuttin' it anymore.
So I tell dad...we need more wood. I want you to drive FORWARD onto a piece of wood, then we can put more wood behind that once your up on it, and THEN you can back up.
So, he went to home depot, got 6 pieces of plywood pieces.
Came home, I position it, he goes forward, I build my ramp, and 5 minutes later he was out.
I had made that suggestion several times over the course of the day.
But, it's out!!!!!!
We didn't want to call the tow truck unless as a last resort. We are way back in the woods and would get charged quite a bit, and the location of where it was it would have just been really ackward, our driveway is really curvy, and it would have been really difficult.
So...of course..more pics...
