advent party in kandern

Every Thursday during advent, the town of Kandern blocks off Hauptstrasse and throws a party with tree stumps burning all over the place to keep it warm, extra Christmas trees, various performances (last week the BFA choirs and this week some fire dancers!), and booths selling yummy Christmas foods like powdered sugared waffles, brats, gluhwein (hot, mulled wine), kinderpunch (the kids version) and berliners. PLUS, all the stores are open. In a town where things are closed for 2 hours every afternoon and often more and close at 6 during the week and noon on Saturday, it's a momentous occasion!
