Holy Assumption of the Virgin Mary Russian Orthodox Church

2008.01.31
After the title above I really should need no text here :)

The sun was setting and making the church absolutely glow.

Hoarfrost on everything the last few days....

This church is in Old Town Kenai...almost directly across from my favorite restaurant in Kenai - Veronica's (we'll save that for another post!). We have very few buildings in Kenai worth taking a photograph of - interesting architecture is very difficult to find here. This church is the exception to that rule - it is beautiful in every way. I so appreciate those of you out there in photoblog land that do share your architecture - it is so interesting to see the history and detail of your cities!! When I dropped my husband at the airport tonight I nearly kicked him out of the truck so I could race back to catch the last of the sun on the church...he was laughing at me :)

DancingDolphin PERFECT light... well worth kicking him out the door for! Beautiful set! LOVE the close-up of the cross... yellow/ white/ blue, my favorite color combination. It would make a perfect set paired with MY post today!

lexlevans haha - oh the things we do for good photos (at least your husband can have a good sense of humor about it!)

and talk about AMAZING photos! this church is so beautiful and you captured it so well!

i love the sunlight on it - and how neat the hoar frost looks, and those great colors of the church against a fabulous blue sky!

i love seeing architecture from all over the US and the world too! and just remember - what might seem uninteresting to you, might be something new to someone else!!

LastFrontier Beautiful, just wonderful shots and angles and lighting. Architecture is a bit rare in AK--thanks for showing this. I suppose you could have let the title trail into the first caption, you funny woman.
LastFrontier · 2008-02-01: 11:58
soldotnamanda I love #3. It's perfect. That is a little treasure of architecture for sure.

paintbox Your last statement about kicking your husband out so you could get the pictures-I GET! When the light is right it's right and right now! It was worth it - the architecture of the little church, the colors - it is truly beautiful. The light is actually pink! Great pictures. I'm glad your husband was laughing.
paintbox · 2008-02-01: 14:35
photopoet It's amazing what we all do to get that photo opportunity! The church is beautiful; the hoar frost is an incredible design and the Alaskan blue sky from the first to last photo looks so pristine. Great series.
