Wedding Plans: Day 70

2008.03.28
Katie filling out RSVP notes.

Adam doing the same.

This is about half of the invitations.

Meet Joshua Adam and Katherine Elizabeth.

As I sit here on this evening, I am tired from work, but also feeling a little reflective. In the following two months, I will experience some milestones in my life. Next month I will turn forty (I like spelling out the word, the numerals seem so harsh.) It just amazes me how the older I get, the less old, my age sounds. I remember thinking thirty was old when I was twenty-eight.lol Now as I embark on a new decade, I am ready to embrace it.

In May, my oldest son will marry a lovely young lady named Katie. I am so happy for both of them, and love gaining a new family member. Just as I'm sure her parents feel, I can hardly believe that my first born child is grown. It really wasn't that long ago that I was standing on the front porch hollering for Adam to come in for the night, because he would have lived outside if I let him. Or I believe it was just yesterday that I was yelling at him to "turn the music down!" (Wait a minute....maybe it was yesterday.) I am sure that only a few days ago I watched him walk across the stage for his high school graduation. Now he is out in the world making a life for himself, and I couldn't be a more proud mother.

I know this post is sentimental, and perhaps, a little cheesy, but it is what was on my mind tonight.

Have a great weekend,
~Julie~

LotoFoto Wow, how exciting for you family.
And what a young mom you are! (I turned forty more than a year ago ;)
I've never been a country music fan but I heard this song last night and it made me cry... you might find it fitting also...

She was staring out the window of that SUV
Complaining, saying “I can’t wait to turn 18″
She said “I’ll make my own money, and I’ll make my own rules”
Momma put the car in park out there in front of the school
Then she kissed her head and said “I was just like you”

You’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this

Before she knows it she’s a brand new bride
In a one-bedroom apartment, and her daddy stops by
He tells her “It’s a nice place”
She says “It’ll do for now”
Starts talking about babies and buying a house
Daddy shakes his head and says “Baby, just slow down”

Cause you’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this

Five years later there’s a plumber workin’ on the water heater
Dog’s barkin’, phone’s ringin’
One kid’s cryin’, one kid’s screamin’
She keeps apologizin’
He says they don’t bother me.
I’ve got 2 babies of my own.
One’s 36, one’s 23.
Huh, it’s hard to believe, but …

You’re gonna miss this
You’re gonna want this back
You’re gonna wish these days hadn’t gone by so fast
These are some good times
So take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you’re gonna miss this

Peche I agree with Lindy, 40 is the new 30, and I would never have guessed your age. This is a wonderful post because it comes straight from the heart... congratulations to you and what a wonderful few months you have ahead of you :D
Peche · 2008-03-29: 03:31

DancingDolphin Congratulations to your son. Mine will also be getting married next year, seems like he can't possibly be "old enough"! A very sentimental time for moms.

Not to worry about turning forty... I'm 54 now and HONESTLY it's a good time of life. Things slow down and you learn a little more about what's really important!
DancingDolphin · 2008-03-29: 10:06
CJLata This is not cheesy at all, I am right there with you. My only child, David is 18, and he is graduating this Spring, and then he goes right off to College in NYC. Of course, it will be a little easier for em, since I left the roost first to come to Graduate school, but it is still hard to face the fact he s no longer a permanent resident at home. Well, at least for now, some kids end up being recycled....lolol. And as far as forty, I hit that a year and a half ago, it isn't half bad. Life is what you make it, and so is age. Look at me, I am getting ready to start a whole new career and way of life. Be adventurous, and do what you have always wanted to do.
CJLata · 2008-03-29: 10:18
ncshutterbug What a beautiful, touching post. Adam is lucky to have you for a mom, and Katie is also lucky to be gaining a wonderful mother-in-law. I agree with Andrea - Adam has some gorgeous handwriting!

I wasn't so crazy about turning 40, as I absolutely loved my 30s. I'll be 46 this summer, and all I can think is that I can't believe I'm almost 50! It was always other people who would be this age, not me. :)
ncshutterbug · 2008-03-29: 10:25
ncshutterbug Oh, and btw - Katie's ring looks similar to mine! :)
ncshutterbug · 2008-03-29: 10:27
TheCrazyCroat Aw, this brings a tear to my eye having two older sons myself.

Congrats to the happy couple. They are extremely lucky to have so many neat pics to document their journey.
TheCrazyCroat · 2008-03-29: 11:02
KerBear Julie this is such a lovely post!! The pictures and the words together... very lovely!! It's so exciting that your first born is getting married and I can imagine it would be a real sentimental time! I felt that way when my cousin I have grown up with got married almost two years ago.....

Congrats to your son and his beautiful bride to be!! They are a very lovely couple!! :)
KerBear · 2008-03-29: 11:56
BreezyOnTheEyes super sentimental post, but in a good way. i can relate to family pride and love after having spent the week with family of my own. as far as age and growing older, i'm having a hard time dealing with the fact that i will be 25 in May. it seems so old to my ears, i can only hope that once i'm there, i won't feel as difficult as it sounds right now!
BreezyOnTheEyes · 2008-03-29: 13:48
japarker ahhh - great post! Congrats to the couple!!
japarker · 2008-03-29: 13:49
Nayah I love your post! Congrats and much joy and happiness to all of you!
Nayah · 2008-03-29: 14:17
mamacita They look so cute together. :) And 40 isn't that bad. I had to say it for the first time the other day at the eye dr, when the lady asked my age. It was like an out-of-body experience when I said it... lol
mamacita · 2008-03-29: 14:48
oldbabe Not to worry about 40! After 40 you just never remember how old you are anyway ;-) I just turned 56 a few weeks ago and I got younger because I thought I was 56 last year! (True story) No one ever asks, so you tend to forget!

Loved this post and didn't find it cheesy at all. Congrats to all of you as your family grows.

oldbabe · 2008-03-29: 17:47
bamommy .What a wonderful post! And the photos are awesome. He will make a handsome groom and she will make a beautiful bride. Congratulations on all the upcoming celebrations. I'm so happy for you
bamommy · 2008-03-29: 20:05
PaperWings Forty? Just a number...You are beautiful and so accomplished! Beautiful family, beautiful friend, and beautiful educator! I can truly say that I am PROUD to call you more than a teammate, but a good friend. :) Maybe I am the one who is feeling sentimental. :)

Great shots and I cant wait to go to that wedding!
PaperWings · 2008-03-29: 20:41
jenjung the post isn't cheesy at all - you're documenting a huge milestone and a really important and wonderful event. they look great together!
jenjung · 2008-03-30: 17:08
seabreeze A great post Julie. Like someone said forty is just a number and as I say "You are as young as you feel". Planning a wedding is very exciting as well. What a lovely couple they make!
seabreeze · 2008-03-30: 18:50
Anjie Beautiful post .. it's always a stirring of the emotions when your child passes a milestone, and indeed when one is upcoming for yourself. Last year was my big turning-thirty milestone :-)
I love how you've captured this moment of you son & his fiance, a sweet moment to reflect on :*)
Anjie · 2008-03-30: 19:07
chasingthoughts Awww congratulations to them and to you!
chasingthoughts · 2008-03-31: 20:46
GnatBytes Wow what a coincidence. My daughter is named Katie and she just became engaged. I suppose my wife will be working on invitations and my bank account (and retirement savings) will be zero. So much for ever having that Nikon lens I told you about :)
GnatBytes · 2008-04-05: 21:25
climbergirl What a happy couple they make. Congratulations to your family!
