Mighty Maple: Day 79

2008.04.06

Same tree I posted on day 76. Just a different "mood."

All the trees are blooming in their own time. Every time I look out my living room window, the maple leaves look a little bigger and greener. The story behind this tree goes back several years when my mother-in-law (Nana) uprooted what she thought was a baby maple tree to give to us. Well, we kept it in a plastic garbage can in our garage for about a year, then we finally planted it. Boy, did this tree grow fast! However, in the autumn we were disappointed when we didn't see the bright colors we were hoping for. We realized our sugar maple was actually a silver maple.

On the other hand, the tree has been very good to us. Our house faces west, and we get a lot of direct sunlight. This tree helps filter this light and lower our electric bill. So here's to the mighty maple:-)

Last month Andrea (focussed) and I came up with the idea of having a theme we call Classroom Capers on the first Monday of each month. Well, this weekend we realized that would be this Monday. We apologize for the short notice, but we would like to invite anyone interested to participate. Keep in mind that you don't have to be a teacher to participate. You can share a story from a childhood school experience, or from your children's school, or if you are in school presently.

Have a great week!
Julie

oldbabe Yes, this mood is definitely better than day 76! #3 is very nice!
Maples are like weeds here. I have maple trees sprouting up all over my gardens because there is a hedgerow of them next to us ;-( Funny it kept for a year in your garage!

Peche Maples are beautiful - this set is just gorgeous as I've not seen a silver maple before, only Japanese maple that my parents have in their backyard - I should take some shots of it now, before the leaves fall! Thanks for the inspiration, Julie, and I hope you are well :)
