I've Got Mail: Day 132

I get mail; therefore I am.
Scott Adams
The Postal Service delivers mail six days a week to nearly 140 million addresses. Every year this number increases by 2 million.
Joe Baca
I was a couple of days behind checking my mail, and the mailbox was rather full. Some days I just don't want to deal with it! I get really tired of sorting through all the junk mail - what a waste of time and paper.

According to the US Postal Service, in 2005, US Postal workers delivered over 100 billion pieces of first-class mail. They also delivered over 101 billion pieces of junk mail. It was the first bulk mail, or year junk mail exceeded regular mail.

It would take as many as 100 million trees to provide enough paper for that many pieces of junk mail according to the Center for A New American Dream.

Okay, that's my little rant.

Til tomorrow,

ncshutterbug I love this! Very original.

DancingDolphin I can TOTALLY relate.... I hate getting mail any more, there is almost NOTHING worthwhile... all my bills are auto pay, no one writes letters, therefore if it's in the mailbox chances are it's JUNK! Okay, that's MY rant. :-)

Anjie I agree with you -- I get so much mail, and so much of ends up in my waste.
Great B&W shot, you have such a classic mailbox! Mine is just a big square brick box, LOL

ofwordsandphotos Every year this number increases by 2 million.

This surprises me a bit because we all now have the electronic gadgets. But this only shows that millions of people now are shopping online, ordering catalogues online, etc....

Nice info.

oldbabe I hardly get any mail. When I do it's usually a card or letter so I like snail mail.

On the other hand...I have to sort through hundreds of junk emails weekly. Now, that's my rant!
oldbabe · 2008-05-30: 19:41

????? it's kind of sad that junk mail has exceeded regular mail...

no one sends me anything through regular mail anymore so the only thing I have to look at now is junk mail : (

seabreeze Very unusual but I love it. #1 is so crisp and clear. I get more spam in my inbox than in my mailbox these days.
seabreeze · 2008-05-30: 22:49

meiling · 2008-05-31: 08:34

ScubaLiz Oh, I SO agree with you! I get a staggering amount of junk mail, and it's so frustrating. I have twice this year thrown out bills or statements I needed, because most of my mail goes straight from the mail box to the trash, unopened. Grrr!
ScubaLiz · 2008-06-10: 11:35
????? yuck, i hate junk mail!
