Seduced and abandoned Tesco trolleys perish around Warwick Uni campus

2006.11.07

If you were a trolley (now, I know this sounds totally nuts, but forgive me this unpoetic twist of mind and read on), would you be happy to be abducted from your workplace by lazy shoppers and, once unneeded, to be neglected lying in the bushes, to the mercy of nature's elements?

Here are snapshots of just several of the miserable hijacked things. They can be encountered all around campus if one took a leisure walk. Some specimens rest on lawns in desperation, broken-wheeled. One was recently found drowned in a brook. A hungry flock of others huddle together behind someone's kitchen. Another couple has been neatly parked in the neighbouring company of bikes. An adventurous solitary trolley is enjoying the autumnal scenery near a lake. This particular, admittedly, does appear gleeful, although its urban looks are highly discrepant with the serenity of Tocil Woods. Another one skulks in the corner of a doorway, full of out-of-date leaflets.

Maybe it's worth noticing that Tesco has put a sign kindly asking its customers not to take trolleys behind a certain point (quite remote from the supermarket itself, to be sincere). This must have been done on some purpose, even if only to ensure that there would always be enough trolleys in stock for local shoppers whenever they should need a pint of Tesco value milk.
