Venezia: la gente e gli animali (1)

2008.04.09

she actually looks a bit like Peggy Gugenheim!

Sono un Venetiano.

ABBA?

the sun was shining during this pouring rain. I think, it was a reflection of this girl's umbrella in the sky...

carrying the sun under the rain

More people in red. They were actually holding hands before I decided to steal a shot :-)

and another person in red, literally. That was a wi-fi spot in the middle of a small square.

Waiting for the rain to stop in a dry spot near a shop-window. I don't mind it, but my pet doesn't like when his jeans get det.

there are no dojes left in Venice, but there are plenty of sea-gulls

grandpa and grandson on the prettiest sea promenade I've seen

I wonder what these locals were doing...taken from the vaporetto in the far-end of the centre, where the number of tourists gets exponentially smaller, even though it's only about 30 mins walk from St Marc's. I myself was in venice for 36 hours (not counting the two conference days), as probably most of the tourists, and it was a shame i couldn't explore much more than the touristest of all touristy spots.

I really like this shot, taken from the vaporetto (water-city-bus) with a mighty zoom.

I passed this street three times in about 15 minutes (I got lost). She had three different cups each time.

In a cathedral. What would the guy in # 27 say?

Pretty opera-assistants. They managed to explain me in Italian (they didn't seem to speak any English or German) what the next performances are, in which opera house, and what the discounts for students and young people are. Yay!

I couldn't bring myself to sit in that cafe. Maybe if I had company, I could have swallowed it. Not the price, it isn't that unbearable. It's just the sheer exposedness and fakeness of it. By the way, you are no longer allowed to eat/drink anything on St Marc's square (for the benefit of the cafes and restorante's). In which you find yourself like sitting on a stage. I am not surprised the girl (and many others) were hiding behind dark sunglasses (in the rain). You need to pretend to be short-sighted to be able to forget about the crowds around you. Sitting in the cafe as a tourist seems worse than being one of the musicians (at the background) who were just doing their job.

we live here, man, and we don't give a shit about you and your bloody umbrella. Ok, we could spare one.

c'mon mate, strike the best pose you can think of, St Marc's tower is behind you!

Most of us visit Venice to snap it away. It's actually hard to really see it, when you are constantly looking through a tiny dig screen...

this bloke's portrait was frequently to be seen on the walls.

and here is his mum

Ladies marvelling at the "Thin Woman" by (i forgot the artist). A self-confident bloke sitting in the throne behind the Thin Woman. I like the three levels of this picture.
