Xmas 2006

2008.06.03
the main culprits

I WAS THIS FAR FROM MY HOMETOWN ON XMAS 2006/2007! ok, I come from Bulgaria so this picture is lying - but I was still pretty far :-)

The Crimson Five! our host right in the middle, to her left is her friend whom we visited, and the rest of the festive people clad in red are us, the three host students

carol singing in a holiday home for people with various difficulties. I'm was humming from behind the scenes because someone had to take photos :-)

a host student with one of the carol singers, a well-respected local medic.

on one of the many little trips around Cornwall we did with our host in just 3 days

This gentleman, a good friend of our host, proved to be the best punster in the world!

a formal photo on one of the beaches of Cornwall

a friend of our host's (the chief lady in red from picture 3 above)

our host in an adventurous mood

tyrying out a real English Christmas cake...in Russia they celebrate differently!

a hearty conversation between a practicing Sikh and a bahai on Boxing day

I do look happy here, don't I? :)

Now this was a real treat - on Dec 24 our host took us to a British Christian Orthodox celebration. For a Bulgarian and Russian student spending their Xmas in the UK this was very special.

Cornish seagulls

a funny sign in Mevagissey

Cornwall is a very musical place!

Newquay

a *real* Cornish pasty! The Sikh student got the recipe and put us, the girls, to shame:-)

a touching nativity scene in the old fireplace of our host's house, made of her own old toys!

a Russian pie made of English ingredients :)

Cornish fishing boats

It was a cosy Xmas!

as I said, music is everywhere you go in Cornwall!

The Host's Best Friend

The guest book: a true treasure. Our host has had HOST students every year since...1972!

;-)

I miss Cornwall!

This post is about my HOST visit at Xmas 2006. I had an awesome time back then, as an international student first time in the UK, iunable to go home for Xmas, and it occurred to me recently that I could do something little for HOST myself. So, I'm taking part in the Two Castle Run (http://www.twocastlesrun.org.uk/) on June 8 to raise some funds for HOST and to spread the word about the charity. Do take a look - www.justgiving.com/milenakremakova

For more info see www.hostuk.org. More volunteer hosts are always needed! :)
