Art by the sea (2) – Sand house

My sculpture suggests a house made of glass
and sand.
The work embodies 3 main intermeshing ideas:
The object, the House – The House is a symbol of
a private place, affording protection. It is where
we feel protected and where we spend most of
our lives. Having a shelter/house is intrinsic to
being human.
Fragility – Symbolised by glass that acts as the
house’s wrapping and holding up the sand.
Glass is a material made from sand.
The Sea – symbolised by the sand which is the
element coming between the sea and the land,
and is the outcome of the clash between the Sea
and the Land.
These three ideas are interwoven in an attempt
to cause an experience and start a discussion.
As an object/sculpture, the house accommodates
two different things:
- the observer who may go in and come out
through two doors, one big one and the other
small, in an attempt to get adults and children
playing together, so that they can choose which
door to use. At the same time, they can look out
at the sea through the windows.
- the sand in between the glass walls which are
supported by an iron frame. The sand gains
shape, covering the house completely.

globetrotdreamer The third one is my fave from this set. You couldn't have picked a more fitting text for this set! Is post text-inspired or photo-inspired? ;)

CHOSSID Very cool. I like the last, with the sea reflecting on it, best.

josy63 Magique et sympathique ! L'explication donnée par le plasticien est intéressante. J'aime l'idée de rentrer par la grande porte et telle Alice m'engouffrer dans la petite....J'ai gardé la vue de la fenêtre

KatysPassionata each one is fantastic in their own way...the first looks like a portal to another dimension...#3 looks like someone's misplaced memory...and #4 looks like pieces of a monochromatic dream.....love this ecclectic set!
