Onwards to Kyoto, my adopted home away from home away from home away from home.

2008.01.11

Looking deep and reflective at the enterance to the Philosopher's path.
pixel
One of the coolest entryways to any temple I've seen. It basically a garden up on top.
pixel
I like this picture cause Taylor doesn't actually look much taller than me.

2008 is the year of the Rat so this guy was getting some extra acorn love.

Mom gettin her prayer on.

This Ladies and gentelman is what one calls a Love Hotel. That should be pretty self explanatory, but I'll give you some hints. Advertised on the signs: 1) It is indeed possible to rent rooms by the hour. 2) If you check in after midnight you don't have to check out until 2PM the next day (if you even need the whole night that is). 3) There is one free beer included in the price of the room.

One of the luckiest cats ever.

Stopping in at the Kyoto Fresh Chocolate Organic Teahouse.

Now, I'm not one to exagerate, nor am I very experienced in the ways of chocolate, but I feel entirely confident in saying that this place makes the best chocolate on earth. At least as far as mine, my mother's, and my brother's experience is concerned. Seriously. Ask them. The best.

Another monstrous Torii gate, this time near the Meiji Shrine in Higashiyama.
pixel
Tainai-Meguri, the coolest temple attraction this side of ever. Can't really tell you much about it except that it involves travelling through the womb of a Bodhisatva.
pixel
Standing in the shadow of Kiyomizudera. Literally. Damn bad lighting...
pixel
This one's for Warren. Heh heh...
pixel
After courageously completing the walk of love.
pixel
Kiyomizu is in one of the most impressive places in all of Kyoto.
pixel
Can you believe this guy?
pixel
Kiyomizu again.
pixel
The crazy network of support beams it takes to hold up Kiyomizu.
pixel
Fun with Lanterns

Japanese Graveyards are awesome, and quite often, expansive.
pixel
Some random girl being super cute in a kimono. How classic is this.
pixel
The old man who made us Okonomiyaki. Nice guy, but I don't know when I've seen a human move so slowly before.
pixel
Taylor chopping into said Okonomiyaki.

Tally Mctallerson was a little cramped in the Japanese busses. Maybe you'll think twice before you get so tall huh.
pixel
Planning the next days adventure in a room that is notably more spacious than the last place in Tokyo.
pixel
Okay, I've said this before and I'll say it again, Kyoto is my favorite place in the world. This trip confirmed for me once again that I must at some point live in this city for an extended period of time. It's just insane how much there is to do here. We had nearly a week to spend doing things around town and I still didn't feel like we accomplished half of what I wanted to show Mom and Taylor. It's just like every nook and cranny holds some new wonder just waiting to show itself to you. There will definitely be more of Kyoto coming in the future of this blog.
