deleted062007 Man Annah, thanks for this major trip down memory lane. I do remember all of these glass bottles and glass containers at the candy store just around the corner from me when I was a kid - even when we did not have the money, we would go into the store and look at all of these "goodies" and in most cases, the owner would give us a few candies (maybe just to get rid of us or maybe because out of his shear kindness - I think the latter). Most candies were a penny, 3 for, 6 for, etc - but my favourite were black balls, which were 6 for a penny. All 6 would go into our mouths, and the lot of us would walk around most of the day with the insides of our mouths and the tongue, all in black, as we would stick out or tongues at the passer-bys!!

deleted062007 All of these shots are just fantastic, the colours, the symmatry, the dof, plus all of the different types of candies one kid could only imagine!! Well Annah, that kid was me - and I still buy black balls today at a bulk food store - but it is not the same. The only thing we did not have back then was "sugar free" - it was a 100% sugar fix, but kids needed that because of all of the energy we expended!!

Thanks again for this this very kind post Annah, but most of all, for this fine trip down this memory lane - with my childhood buddies, Jimmy, Johnny, Neville and David ... it is so vivid and holds a great place in my mind - a time of being carefree, innocent and so full of life!! - Sincerely, from just the kid in me - Art

deleted062007 The Candyman

Who can take a sunrise,
Sprinkle it with dew?
Cover it in chocolate and a miracle or two
The candyman, the candyman can,
The candyman can 'cause he mixes it with love
and makes the world taste good

Who can take a rainbow,
Wrap it in a sigh?
Soak it in the sun and make the stra'bry lemon pie
The candyman? The candyman can
The candyman can 'cause he mixes it with love
and makes the world taste good

The Candyman makes
everything he bakes
Satisfying and delicious.
Talk about your childhood wishes.
You can even eat the dishes!

Who can take tomorrow,
Dip it in a dream?
Separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream,
The candyman? The Candyman can, the candyman can
The candyman can 'cause he mixes it with love
and makes the world taste good
And the world tastes good
'cause the candyman thinks it should

carmitage Like Leap, I watched but couldn't afford any, the owner of the shop
wasn't so kind as to give one. One Sunday I was dying to have
one of these delicious chewing gums, and since my friends used to to the shop before Sunday school (I am protestant), I decided I was
going to share the 20 centimes my mother gave to me for the "poors". 10 centimes for a chewing gum and 10 centimes for the church.
Well ! That was a bad do, my brother denounced me and I spent
the whole day in bed.
What she never knew is that I picked up chewing gums from the
ground to try !!!

pattyb Oh, I'll take about a half a dozen to eat while watching Dancing With the Stars!!! Great post!

Why do I think after he eats his "black balls" from the bulk food store, he still today, sticks his tongue out at the passer byers!!?? ; )
pattyb · 2007-04-17: 21:35
deleted062007 Ya know Patty, you are so right - I do!! But not as loud - it's a "silent tongue-sticking-out" at them all!! What do I care - after you reach this stage in life, life is to lived wooooooooooo hooooooooooooo!!
