The entrance to museum Vredeburg.
Fort Vredeburg was built in 1767-1787, under the supervision of Frans Haak. After it's finished, it named 'Rustenburg' or the resting fort. In 1867, a strong earthquake happened and destroyed a lot of big buildings, including the Restenburg. After a big renovation, the fort was named 'Vredeburg' or the peace fort. This was a manifestation of the relationship between The Jogja Palace and The Dutch for they agreed not to attack each other. |
These are the rooms inside Vredeburg.
The building was used as a military quarters including dormitory, logistic warehouse, a military hospital, and residential. Vredeburg was occupied by 500 soldiers, including the paramedics. |
