Vila Fresca de Azeitão is a village belonging to the parish of St. Simão de Azeitão, located in the Natural Park of the Arrábida Sierra, an area blessed by nature, chosen by the nobility as a place of choice for centuries, establishing farms and manor houses of great beauty.
In fact, Vila Fresca de Azeitão developed around the Quinta Fresca, which today is located the magnificent Palace of Quinta da Bacalhoa, founded in the fifteenth century by King João I, and is still today one of the main sights of the region.
This is a town renowned for the beauty of its landscapes and its rich farms and fertile land at the junction of the mountain with the proximity of the great Atlantic Ocean.
It pays to know the beautiful Church of St. Simão founded the Order of Santiago in the twelfth century yet, and the current temple since the sixteenth century and the beautiful Chapel of St. Pedro of Alcube, the next Chapel of Our Lady of the needs of the fifteenth century, and of course the fantastic Quinta da Bacalhoa sixteenth century, considered the most beautiful in the country
Many other estates, mansions and estates in the region are noteworthy as the Renaissance Palace of the Dukes of Aveiro, the Thursdays from Baldrucas to the Bassagueira the Sharing the Bad or the Straw, among others.
Since 1723 in the town that are held celebrations in honor of Our Lady of Health, bringing together a large number of activities and also for visitors who enjoy the local religious fervor. The festivities began around the time of a great plague that swept the region, but left untouched the parish, celebrating this miraculous fact that since then, the weekend closest to September 8.
The region is also very famous for its local products, the fruit of fertile land, producing the famous cheese, much appreciated "Pies Azeitão" or table wine as caste "Piriquita" and the sweet Moscatel de Setubal.
