A new chapter in Marietta High School football was opened as the Blue Devils traveled to the South Cobb High School Eagles to begin the season. Also for the Eagles a brand new turf, out with the grass and in with artificial turf, more like plastic grass with a rubbery feel to it. It was nice.
It was a scoreless game for much of the first half, the Eagles did score a FG in the second quarter and lead 3-0 at halftime.
After all the halftime adjustments the Devils offence began to come alive, scoring 10 points in the third quarter to tie it up at 10-all. The fourth quarter saw the Devils go ahead for good as QB Anthony Jennings ran it in and the Devils defeated the Eagles 17-13 in both teams season opener.
