2008.03.23
Matt and I head to a national park for lunch, feasting on chicken and rice salad (and knowing me, of course there was cake).

There was lots to see around the park that I remembered from my childhood. In years passed, family would gather here and we'd collect walking sticks and play ball games, while the grown-ups talked.

The texture of these leaves felt incredible to the touch!

[enlarge for detail] This is Masons Falls, where a torrent of water once flowed. Sadly, with much of the eastern coast of Australia in drought, this is no longer the case, the mighty falls reduced to a mere trickle.

From the viewing platform, this was one of the other panoramic sights.

Heading back to an area closer to the falls, this was the extent of one of the streams. Debris and a miniscule amount of flow.

[enlarge for detail] The rust colour on part of the rocks show that this flow has been the case for many years. Yet, it is beautiful in its simplicity.

My cousins and I used to play near here as children, our parents urging us to come away from the rocks in case we lost our footing. Back in the day, we'd have ended up drenched - today all we'd get were damp ankles!

I found this lichen-covered bench seat interesting, on the way back from our walk. :)

I was very excited to see native Australia parrots at the park, even if it were only just before we left. Sadly, they didn't leave the sanctuary of their trees... prefering to sit and wait for someone to leave out some food!

On Easter Sunday, Matt and I head out to Kinglake National Park (north of Melbourne) for a picnic lunch. I used to picnic here as a child, and it was interesting to remember details, and what has changed during the years.

Great set, I've never been there and it does look like the perfect place to picnic. I love the last shot - great capture :)
