Children Talk About Houses

2008.05.26
"There are lots of sunflowers at my house but I just drew one of them. That's y brother, he's pretending to be a teddy. It's a stripey house and it has balloons on it. There's a party. And this is a trampoline. There's a letterbox for letters, and a car" [Age 4]

"That's the door and that's the windows. That's the chimney and that's the wings so I can fly to space. I drew what I see out my window". [Age 4]

"There's my swings. That's the balcony and these are the stilts. Here's the bedroom window and my nunk bed inside the window. There's the log chimney for the fireplace. It's my house and my holiday house." [Age 5]

"I have 6 windows and a slide. One sun and one flower. And this is the grass. There are shadows on the side of the house". [Age 4]

"There's heaps of moons and three suns. There's Mummy in the kitchen and she's doing dishes. There's a trampoline in the backyard". [Age 5]

"I've drawn my house. These are the stairs to get up. These are the beds, these are the windows. I drew the sink. I put my family in the house too". [Age 5]

"This is my house at the daytime. Mum's in the kitchen, my brother's at the backyard, Dad's in the spa holding the ball, I'm just walking". [Age 5]

"There's windows and something that goes really fast. There's stairs too". [Age 5]

"That's the river and it has a fire in the chimney. I think that's it. There are some things to hold the house up". [Age 5]

"My house has lots of things in it - toys, grand prix cars and trains. This is the back room at the end of the driveway. There's a tall tree and it's so tall and not even a year old yet". [Age 4]

After a discussion about the houses we live in, I asked the children in my Kindergarten group (aged 4 and 5) to draw "their house". These were some of the results, and thought I'd share them with you. :)

ambersunsets Thanks for sharing this. I absolutely ADORE this set!
Very special and creative. I love the way children so openly express themselves with words and drawings. We teachers are blessed to be a part of that experience.
I'm saving the 6th shot, so I can come back and visit(:

climbergirl That's great. It's amazing how much info you can get from kids when they describe their drawings.
